• Peripheral Angiogram

  What is a Peripheral Angiogram? A Peripheral Angiogram is a minimally invasive imaging procedure used to visualize the arteries outside the heart- typically in the legs, arms, or abdomen. It helps diagnose narrowing, blockages, or other abnormalities in the peripheral arteries, which can reduce blood flow to the limbs. How does a Peripheral Angiogram work? A small catheter is inserted into an artery, often in the groin, foot, or wrist. A contrast dye is then injected through the catheter. X-ray images are taken as the dye flows through the arteries, allowing the care team to see any blockages or narrowing.

• Peripheral Angioplasty

  What is a Peripheral Angioplasty? A Peripheral Angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure to open narrowed or blocked arteries. It's often used to treat Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), a condition where plaque buildup reduces blood flow to the limbs. How does a Peripheral Angioplasty work? A thin, flexible tube called a catheter is inserted into the artery, typically through a small incision in the groin, foot, or wrist. A tiny balloon and/ or laser is inserted at the site of the blockage to compress and open the artery. In some cases, a stent (a small wire mesh tube) is also placed to help keep the artery open long-term.

• Peripheral Venogram

  What is a Peripheral Venogram? A Peripheral Venogram is a diagnostic imaging procedure used to evaluate the veins in the arms or legs. It helps doctors identify issues like blood clots (deep vein thrombosis or DVT), vein narrowing, blockages, or abnormal vein structures. How it works A contrast dye (a special fluid that shows up on X-rays) is injected into a vein in the arm or leg. X-ray images are then taken as the dye flows through the veins. This allows the medical team to see the condition of the veins in real-time.

• Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE)

  What is a Genicular Artery Embolization? A Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE) is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat chronic knee pain, especially due to osteoarthritis, by reducing inflammation in the knee joint. How does a GAE work? The genicular arteries are small blood vessels that supply the lining of the knee joint. In osteoarthritis, increased blood flow to these areas can lead to chronic inflammation and pain. During a GAE, a small catheter is inserted (usually through the groin or foot) and guided to the genicular arteries. Microscopic particles are injected to block the abnormal blood vessels, reducing inflammation and pain.

  What is Ultrasound? Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging test used to evaluate the blood vessels- arteries and veins- in the arms, legs, or other areas outside the heart and brain. It uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of blood flow and vessel structure. How does Ultrasound work? A small handheld device called a transducer is moved over the skin. The device sends sound waves into the body, which bounce off blood vessels and return as echoes. A computer converts these echoes into moving images on a screen.

  What is Wound Care? Peripheral wound care refers to the specialized treatment of wounds that occur in the arms, legs, feet, or other areas outside the central body- especially those related to poor circulation, diabetes, or vascular disease. These wounds often heal slowly or not at all without proper medical attention, and may include: Diabetic foot ulcers Venous stasis ulcers Arterial Ulcers Pressure sores Post-surgical or trauma-related wounds What does Wound Care involve? Peripheral wound care includes: Wound cleaning and debridement (removing dead tissue) Specialized dressings to promote healing Compression therapy for venous ulcers Blood flow assessment with ultrasound or other tests Referral for vascular intervention if circulation needs to be restored Patient education on wound prevention and self-care
